What is the difference between a chest and a dresser?
A chest of drawers is tall and narrow, usually 44 to 56 inches high with four to six drawers stacked in one column. A dresser is wide and low, about 30 to 36 inches tall with drawers in two or three columns and often a mirror on top.
Do chests of drawers need to be anchored?
Yes. Even though new chests must meet the federal STURDY stability standard, manufacturers and the Consumer Product Safety Commission still recommend anchoring every chest to the wall with the included strap, especially in homes with children.
How do I check drawer quality on a chest?
Pull each drawer all the way out: it should glide smoothly and stop before falling out. Look for interlocking joints at the drawer corners rather than staples, a drawer bottom that does not flex, and a real back panel on the case.
